A leading family business in transport & forwarding
Established in 1976 in Malta
The origin and history of the Attrans Transport Group
Philip Attard Senior established Attrans Ltd. in Malta in 1976. He was one of the first people from Malta to commercialise road transport by ferry to mainland Europe. Nowadays, the Attrans Transport Group comprises four company divisions: Attrans Ltd. (Malta), Attrans BV (The Netherlands), Attrans Italia SRL (Italy) and Attrans North Africa BV (The Netherlands).
A real family business
Mr Attard started as a one-man-business importing machines and vehicles from the United Kingdom. He drove them by truck to the south of Italy and ferried them to Malta on the only RoRo service available at that time. After making a couple of these journeys, he was approached by a number of other importers and asked to transport their loads from the United Kingdom and North Italy to Malta. Attrans Ltd. was formed soon afterwards as a 100% Maltese transport company and still remains a family business to this day. Between 30 and 40 full trailers are transported from mainland Europe to Malta every week.
International transport company
Since then the company has developed into a fully-fledged transnational transport company with an international workforce. Operating in Malta and abroad in Italy and the Netherlands, we have agents in North Africa, France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain and Portugal, many of whom have worked with the company for many years.
Attrans North Africa Transport BV
In order to keep up with the development and growth in North Africa, it was necessary to create professional structures. A new company was established in the Netherlands in 2012 by the name of Attrans North Africa Transport BV. We have been fully operational since October 2012 and are based in attractive premises in Hazeldonk on the border between the Netherlands and Belgium (right next to the customs building). Two members of staff with more than 20 years of North Africa experience between them lead Attrans' newest branch.
